Lil Wayne Apologizes for ‘Black Lives Matter’ Comments

Lil Wayne is backtracking on his comments tied to the Black Lives Matter movement during a recent interview with ABC’s Nightline, pinning his remarks to the reporter’s line of questioning.

“When the reporter began asking me questions about my daughter being labeled a bitch and a hoe, I got agitated,” he said in a statement to TMZ. “From there, there was no thought put into her questions and my responses.”

When prompted on the late-night news show about BLM, a movement that formed on social media as a hashtag in 2012 following the death of Trayvon Martin, Lil Wayne offered, “I don’t feel connected to a damn thing that ain’t got nothin’ to do with me.” He added, “I’m a young black rich motherf—er. If that don’t let you know that America understand black f—in’ lives matter these days, I don’t know what it is.”

During a recent appearance on the FS1 show Undisputed, Lil Wayne was also asked about politically charged topics like NFL star Colin Kaepernick’s national anthem protest and race relations in America. “These whole 33 years, I’ve been blessed and I’ve never dealt with racism,” he said.
