Keke Palmer said she is pursuing legal action against Trey Songz after the singer put her in his “Pick Up the Phone” video allegedly without her permission.
Speaking with Larry King, Palmer explained her side of the story with the video, which has now had the footage of her removed. She said she was at a party in Miami for New Year’s Eve that wound up being a video shoot, but she specifically told the video’s producer, assistant producer and Trey Songz himself that she didn’t want to be involved.
“I wasn’t in the right mind,” she said. “I had been drinking and eating and it wasn’t a professional environment. It was not a place where I was like I’m in the right mind to decide if this works with my brand, if I like the artist, I don’t know nothing about the artist that’s also in the song.”
When the video was first released earlier this week, Palmer reacted alleging Trey Songz used “sexual intimidation” against her while trying to persuade her to participate in the filming.
When King asked about this, she explained, “I feel as a female often I’m put in situations where sometimes males will use their masculinity, their sexuality to taunt you.”
Palmer continued with an example, saying, “It would be like you going to a party where the biggest jock is there and the whole time he’s like you can get screwed, you can get this you can get that, ‘You ain’t no little girl anymore.'”
Specifically regarding her noted legal action, Palmer said it is as much a matter of principal as anything else.
“My point isn’t to say it’s just specifically about this guy and what he did,” she said. “It’s the overall idea that you can’t just do stuff to people and it’s alright — no matter who you are.”
