It’s been all Kanye West this week, as the rapper/producer/mogul geared up for his Yeezy Season 4 fashion show in New York City on Wednesday, as well as a pair of dates at Madison Square Garden earlier this week. And Wednesday night at a pop-up show at Manhattan’s Highline Ballroom to celebrate his G.O.O.D. Music collective, Kanye announced that he had signed Tyga to the G.O.O.D. Music record label and Atlanta trio Migos to G.O.O.D. Music’s newly formed management wing.
Tyga left his longtime label Cash Money Records after an acrimonious split where he criticized labelmate Drake and alleged that label boss Birdman didn’t pay him. And he and Kanye have a history, both professionally and personally: West served as the executive producer for Tyga’s first independent album after leaving Cash Money, 2015’s The Gold Album: 18th Dynasty, and enlisted his creative agency DONDA to design its cover art; and Tyga is currently dating Kylie Jenner, the younger sister of West’s wife Kim Kardashian. (The mother of Tyga’s son King Cairo, Blac Chyna, is also engaged to Rob Kardashian.)
Meanwhile, the relationship between Migos and Kanye is a little less clear-cut. Their only musical collaboration to date came earlier this year, when Quavo appeared on Kanye’s posse cut “Champions” alongside Gucci Mane, Yo Gotti and G.O.O.D. Music affiliates 2 Chainz, Big Sean, Desiigner and Travi$ Scott. After that song’s release, Migos said in an interview in June that they had recorded multiple songs with West, though none have been released as of yet. Reports say that Migos are still signed to Atlanta-based label Quality Control Music.
Reps for Migos and G.O.O.D. Music did not return requests for comment as of press time. A rep for Tyga confirmed to Billboard that he is now signed to the G.O.O.D. Music label.
G.O.O.D. Music’s latest signing prior to this announcement was Desiigner earlier this year, who has enjoyed a breakout 2016 on the strength of his Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 song “Panda” and its follow up, “Tiimmy Turner,” which is currently at No. 41 on the chart. Other artists signed to the label are Sean, Q-Tip, Teyana Taylor, Pusha T — who also serves as the label’s president — Hxlt and Kacy Hill. Migos appear to be the first signing to G.O.O.D.’s management wing, however, which was previously unannounced.
