Power gets renewed for season 6, four months before season 5 premiere

In spite of a number of hiccups along the way, New York crime drama Power will be returning for a sixth season – even though season five hasn’t even aired yet. Good going, guys.

Overcoming concerns that Power would be cancelled along with its US network Starz, Starz has confirmed that the series will be back for “another great season” (via TVLine).

As well as confirming that the show had been picked up for a sixth run, Starz also announced when season five will premiere: Sunday, July 1.

Executive producer Curtis Jackson (aka the 50 Cent) is set to make his directorial debut for the brand new season too, taking over the helm for season six’s premiere.

“As Power wraps production on season 5, we want to acknowledge and thank our spectacular Power team for producing another great season,” Starz programming president Carmi Zlotnik said in a statement.

“We are also pleased to announce a pick-up for season 6.”

Meanwhile, stars Naturi Naughton and Joseph Sikora recently shared a couple of behind-the-scenes photos of shooting for season five, reassuring fans that nope, they’re not going anywhere.
