Nordstrom Cuts Ties with Ivanka Trump’s Line Over Low Sales

Ivanka Trump has an office in the White House, but she’s been kicked out of Nordstrom.

The First Daughter’s brand will no longer be offered at the company, Nordstrom announced Thursday.

“We’ve said all along we make buying decisions based on performance. We’ve got thousands of brands — more than 2,000 offered on the site alone. Reviewing their merit and making edits is part of the regular rhythm of our business,” a spokesman told the Hollywood Reporter.

“Each year we cut about 10 percent and refresh our assortment with about the same amount. In this case, based on the brand’s performance we’ve decided not to buy it for this season.”

Only four pairs of shoes from Trump’s line, which included women’s shoes, clothing and handbags, were available online Thursday night.

Her name was also no longer listed on Nordstrom’s list of brands.

The department store offered similar explanations on Twitter, responding to social media users that “based on this brand’s performance, we did decide not to buy it for this season” and that it wasn’t political.

But the move comes after widespread protests and boycotts.

Shannon Coulter launched the hashtag “Grab Your Wallet” in October, urging retailers including Amazon, Nordstrom, Bloomingdales, Macy’s, Neiman Marcus and T.J. Maxx to drop Trump’s line.

But Nordstrom denied the request at the time.

“We’ve heard from customers, including some who are long time loyal customers, threatening a boycott of Nordstrom if we continue to carry the line,” Co-President Pete Nordstrom said in an email to employees obtained by Fortune.

“Similarly, we’ve heard from customers who say they will boycott Nordstrom if we stop carrying the brand. This is a sharply divisive subject. No matter what we do, we are going to end up disappointing some of our customers.”

In November, Ivanka Trump Fine Jewelry sent a “style alert” that highlighted the First Daughter’s “favorite bracelet” after wearing the bauble during a “60 Minutes” interview.

Neither Nordstrom nor Trump’s brand responded to a request for comment.
