Tiffany Haddish’s Ex-Husband Sues Her For Defamation

The ex-husband of Tiffany Haddish is suing the comedian for defamation after she made abuse claims in her best-selling memoir.

According to TMZ, Haddish’s husband, William Stewart, has filed the lawsuit over her claims of domestic violence in her 2017 memoir, The Last Black Unicorn.  Stewart is suing Haddish, the book’s co-author Tucker Max, and the publisher Simon & Schuster for libel, slander, and defamation.

In the book, Haddish goes into detail about her relationship with Stewart, claiming that he was physically violent towards her. She also says that her ex-husband, who isn’t named in the book, may have caused the death of their unborn child.

“For the defendants’ own profit, they painted my clients as abusers in a best-selling book. After a thorough review of the facts and evidence, we know that the assertions made by the defendants about my clients in The Last Black Unicorn are patently untrue,” Stewart’s attorney Michael Sterling told TMZ.

The couple was married for five years after first getting married in 2008. Stewart denies all the allegations of violence and says that they lost the baby because Haddish had an abortion.

“Powerful people and influential corporations can’t intentionally and recklessly destroy someone’s reputation with malicious lies for their own profit,” the lawyer, Sterling, said. “After exhausting our ability to solve this matter privately, we have been left with no choice, but to seek legal recourse. We look forward to our day in court.”

Stewart is asking for more than $1 million in damages.
