Jamie Foxx To Executive Produce Series About Marvin Gaye’s Life

Jamie Foxx won an Oscar for recreating Ray Charles’ life story in Ray (2004), and now the acclaimed actor is taking on a new role behind-the-scenes to bring another music icon’s story to life. Foxx will reportedly executive produce a limited series about Marvin Gaye’s life and legacy for the small screen.

The man of many talents has partnered alongside de Passe Jones Entertainment, and will distribute the series across digital outlets, although which services have not been listed, according to The Hollywood Reporter. “I’ve been a huge fan my whole life. His brilliance in music unparalleled,” Foxx told THR. “Marvin Gaye’s story has always fascinated me.”

The limited series will reportedly tell the full story behind the Motown genius who created hits like “Sexual Healing” and “Let’s Get It On,” all the way up until his death in 1984. “This project will be a powerful and definitive telling of Marvin Gaye’s life story,” the singer’s son, Marvin Gaye III. said.

The series also has the blessing of Motown founder Berry Gordy, who said he believes that “this is the right team to bring his story to the audience in an authentic and compelling way.” The production team has also been in touch with Sony/ATV, which controls the rights to Gaye’s music, to browse through the archives of songs they can use for the series.

The Marvin Gay series has not been given a working title or release date at this time.
