Frank Ocean’s Mom on Kim Burrell’s ‘Blonde’ Feature: ‘Son, Can We Crop Her Voice Out of Your Song?’

Gospel singer Kim Burrell set the Internet ablaze with her anti-gay sermon at the Love & Liberty Fellowship Church in Houston, Texas. In a video that circulated online, Burrell said “the perverted homosexual spirit, and the spirit of delusion and confusion, it has deceived many men and women.”

The latest criticism comes from Frank Ocean‘s mother, Katonya Breaux. “Me: Son, can we crop Kim Burrells voice out of your song??,” Breaux tweeted on Sunday (Jan. 1). “I mean damn. Hypocrisy and the inciting of hate pisses me off. Opportunistic &?%#€!!” Burrell was featured on the Blonde track “Godspeed.” In July 2012, Ocean opened up about his bisexuality in a Tumblr post.

Burrell was slated to appear on the The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Thursday (Jan. 5) to perform “I See a Victory,” her collaboration with Pharrell from the Hidden Figures soundtrack. DeGeneres, a prominent lesbian in the entertainment industry, then announced in a tweet that Burrell “will not be appearing on my show.”

Pharrell also shared a message on Twitter without any direct mention to Burrell, saying, “I condemn hate speech of any kind.”
