An Arkansas man accused of shooting a 3-year-old boy to death during a road rage incident is behind bars after being on the lam for over five days, officials have announced.
Greg Holmes, 33, turned himself in to authorities in Little Rock Thursday after his parents worked together with U.S. Marshals to ensure his peaceful surrender, cops said.
He was booked at the Pulaski County Jail later in the evening on two counts of making a terroristic act and one count of capital murder for allegedly killing little Acen King during a traffic stop on Saturday.
Holmes, who has a lengthy rap sheet that includes domestic battery, allegedly became impatient at a stop sign after the victim’s grandmother, Kim King-Macon, apparently didn’t move “fast enough,” cops said. He began honking his horn and when King-Macon honked back, things escalated quickly and tragically.
An enraged Holmes got out of his car and opened fire on King-Macon, who sped off and didn’t stop until she had reached a nearby JCPenney parking lot. That’s when she made a grisly find: her grandson, slouched over in the backseat, shot at least once.
The young boy was taken to an area hospital after his grandmother called 911, but he could not be saved. A family member launched a GoFundMe page in his name that had raised over $3,000 as of early Friday.
“Needless to say, his parents weren’t prepared for this,” the donation page states. “Thank you for making us feel a little less helpless in the process. May you all be blessed this Christmas!”
Holmes could face the death penalty in King’s death. His Facebook profilefeatures numerous photos of a young girl that appears to be his daughter. His latest Instagram photo, posted just a few days before King’s tragic death, features a graphic with the words, “Gone Insane….back soon.”
