Last year we got to know Delray Beach tennis phenom Coco Gauff when she won the Inaugual Render Vous a Roland-Garros USA played in Boca Raton, a junior tournament that looked and felt just like the French Open. On Saturday, Coco won for real at Roland Garros.
There was a huge gathering at Paradise Sports Lounge in Gauff’s hometown of Delray Beach, watching the 14 year old become the 5th youngest French Open girls’ singles champion. The only players younger were Martina Hingis, Jennifer Capriati and Gabriela Sabatini.
Cori Gauff defeated Caty McNally 1-6, 6-3, 7-6 (1) in an all-American final.
“It was a tough fight, but at the end it was worth it,” said Gauff to the Associated Press after the match.
