Pam Grier is ready to take her story to the big screen. The legendary actress is working on a biopic, tentatively titled Pam.
Grier, who dated Richard Pryor in the mid-70s, has already cast SNL alum Jay Pharoah to play her lover. “I watched him and heard his voice and closed my eyes and said, ‘It’s Richard,’” she said. And she caught the talented comedian just in time, since Pharoah’s Showtime series White Famous was just canceled. Bennie Richburg is also on-hand for the biopic’s script duties.
Aside from dating the famed comedian, Grier led a fascinating life as one of the biggest actresses in the ’70s. In the blaxploitation era of film, Grier starred in several classics including Foxy Brown, Coffy, and the Quentin Tarantino-directed Jackie Brown, which he wrote specifically with her in mind.
