Jay-Z’s docuseries about the tragedy and injustice surrounding Trayvon Martin’s death will debut at the Tribeca Film Festival.
The six-part production, titled Rest in Power: The Trayvon Martin Story, will offer a “definitive look at one of the most-talked-about, controversial events of the last decade.”
According to Entertainment Weekly, Trayvon’s parents, Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin, are expected to speak to the audience after the screening.
The series is loosely based on a book written by Trayvon’s parents, titled Rest in Power: The Enduring Life of Trayvon Martin.
“We want to make sure that we stand and support and we never forget [that] Trayvon serves as a beacon of light to the people out here, so you guys never have to go through the pain and hurt that these guys went through,” Jay-Z said during the 2018 Peace Walk & Peace Talk rally, Complex notes. “His name will sit alongside some of the greats [who] lost their life to push our culture forward—the Martin Luther Kings, the [Gandhis]; that’s the intention that we set, that his name serves as a beacon of light and hope, and pushes us into a better direction.”
The screening will take place April 20 at New York City’s BMCC Tribeca Performing Arts Center, 199 Chambers St.
