Chance The Rapper & Salt-N-Pepa to Join Alicia Keys as Performers at Keep A Child Alive’s Black Ball

Chance The Rapper and Salt-N-Pepa will be rocking the stage at Keep a Child Alive’s 13th annual Black Ball, joining other KCA performers including co-founder Alicia KeysA$AP Rocky and Patti Smith in New York City’s Hammerstein Ballroom/Manhattan Center on Oct. 19.

“We have an electric lineup of performers both legends and new-comers this year and I know the energy in the room is going to be ALIVE,” said Keys in a release sent to Billboard. “I’m so excited for Black Ball to livestream on TIDAL, giving so many people the chance to join in the fight against AIDS, and experience this truly magical night where all my worlds come together!”

Now in its 13th year, the organization continues its commitment to the fight against HIV and AIDS. KCA launched in 2003 and supports HIV and AIDS victims in India and Africa. This year’s star-studded charity event aims to embody the spirit of activism in the ’80s, “a time when brave activists spoke out and did something before it was fashionable or safe to do so.”

Esteemed music executive Clive Davis, known for launching the careers of Whitney Houston and Aretha Franklin, will also be honored with KCA’s Humanitarian Award at the black-tie event for his on-going support of organizations fighting AIDS. In 1985, Davis also helmed the song “That’s What Friends Are For,” which aimed to spread awareness about the disease.

Keep a Child Alive’s Black Ball has raised over $28.7 million to date for children and families affected by HIV. The event will also be live-streamed for the first time in its history via Tidal.
