There are actresses, and then there’s Viola Davis. The 51-year-old Academy-Award nominee has been enticing moviegoers for years, and more recently captivated viewers as the morally watered down Annalise Keating on ABC’s How To Get Away With Murder. On Christmas day, Davis will shine bright like a diamond once again in Fences, starring opposite Denzel Washington who also acts as the movie’s director. And while Davis has long had the support of the people, she’ll now forever be immortalized on Hollywood Walk of Fame with her own star.
Monday evening (Dec. 19) Hollywood Walk of Fame producer Ana Martinez announced the news of Twitter that Davis will be the first honoree of the New Year.
While HTGAWM fans patiently wait for the show’s return, and to also find out who killed Wes (relax, this is old news) Davis delivers another colossal performance in Fences. In the August Wilson adaption, Davis plays Rose, wife to Troy Maxson, (Washington) an insufferable man who’s been “rubbed raw” as Wilson puts it due to refusal to enter the major baseball league. Being denied a chance to play ball forces him to become a garbage man, and to project his anger onto his son. Rose is the loyal wife, the only one strong enough to withstand Troy until the family is rocked by his infidelity.
News of Davis’ Hollywood star comes a few days after her Critics Choice Award and her powerful speech on acceptance. Fences has received rave reviews from many and the prediction is her performance will earn her, her first Academy Award. Either way, Vibe is #TeamViola.
Viola Davis’ star will be revealed on January 5, and Fences hits theaters Christmas Day.
